Project: Whisper

  • The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre 597 High Street Penrith, NSW, 2750 Australia

“What are we meant to be, other than who we are.”

‘Project: Whisper’ is not about coming out, it’s about welcoming in. Working in collaboration with Young LGBTQI people from across Greater Western Sydney. The Q is producing a new theatre project as part of Mini Gras ’16. Think theatre, think media, think tumblr meets memoir. You have permission to get excited.

There are many ‘hidden’ young LGTBQI people in Western Sydney. Most are afraid to come out as they think they are alone, are vulnerable and fear being targets of stigma and discrimination. Many are unable to talk about who they are, are frightened of being thrown out of their homes and being cut off from their families or friends. They are more often than not, isolated.

Families, friends and allies are invited to The Joan to connect with a remarkable group of young people, led under the direction of theatre maker Felicity Nicol.

This project is support by Clubs NSW, ACON and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
