Queer Thinking - ‘A Life of Unlearning’: An Intimate Evening with Anthony Venn-Brown

  • Old 505 Theatre 5 Eliza Street Newtown NSW 2042 Australia

What do you do when you are high profile preacher in Australia's mega churches like Hillsong, invested over twenty years trying to change your sexual orientation, including gay conversion programs, exorcisms and sixteen years of marriage, only to find you're facing the reality nothing has changed...and you've fallen in love with a man?

This is the story of Anthony Venn-Brown. His bestselling autobiography A Life of Unlearning was recently released in its third edition after selling out twice.

'An Intimate Evening with Anthony' promises to be a moving, inspiring and entertaining event. It's your opportunity to know more about the man himself, his journey from shame to pride and the worldwide impact his story has created. Anthony will read some, profound and life-defining extracts, from A Life of Unlearning - the good, the bad and the ugly. Much loved, award-winning, Australian actress and director, Anne Looby (A County Practice, All Saints, Wildside, Water Rats), continues the evening with an in-depth interview. The evening will close with an audience Q&A.

'Anthony shares his life with us with all the colour that a story-telling evangelist can capture. The honesty of his story is compelling. His story faces the hard issues, HIV/AIDS, Suicide, Sexual Assault, Relationships, Marriage, Parenting, Domestic Violence, Loneliness, Guilt, Shame, Rejection, Love and Sex. He has nothing to hide and it is refreshing. I recommend this book as a non-threatening way to understand and process the issues of sexuality and spirituality; however, I can’t say you may not experience discomfort as the honesty in these pages invites you to be honest in your own life.'
