The Hidden History of Gay Sydney

  • Paddington Library 247 Oxford Street Darlinghurst, NSW, 2010 Australia

Join renowned historian Garry Wotherspoon to take a journey into Sydney's gay past.

From secretive camp venues to gay liberation meetings, nineteenth century 'Turkish baths' on Oxford Street to drag balls during the Great Depression, our city has a long and proud history of LGBTI social life and activism.

Garry Wotherspoon is the author of Gay Sydney: A History and took part in the original Mardi Gras march in 1978. This talk offers not only a history of gay Sydney, but the chance to hear the story of a path-breaking historian and pioneering activist for equality and LGBTI rights.
