Held at the Ovolo Hotel, Woolloomooloo, "Colours of Our Community" by photographer Markham Lane is a ten year retrospective, celebrating the diversity of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Intersex community in Sydney, Australia, from 2006-2016 from the vista of Markham's lens.
As a project, "Colours of Our Community" preserves the visual stories of the Sydney LGBTQI community, leaving a historical legacy for future generations. Without this project, these stories just get lost to time.
As a curated collection of individual portraits, lifestyle artworks and editorial coverage of events produced in Sydney by LGBTQI organisations, the project aims to provide hope for individuals struggling to come to terms with their own sexuality, while also motivating broader society into greater acceptance for LGBTQI rights.
Kicking off with an exclusive one-night-only Private exhibition and Launch function on Tuesday 21st February 2017 from 6pm, "Colours of Our Community" will continue with a free Public exhibition through to the end of the Mardi Gras Festival. Private exhibition images will not be shown in the Public space.
Public exhibition and Private exhibition Artworks will be put up for Auction on the Launch night, with donations being collected for Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras / Mardi Gras Arts and theAustralian Lesbian and Gay Archives.
The "Colours of Our Community" Public exhibition will continue daily from 8am to 11pm from Wednesday 22nd February through to Sunday 5th March 2017.
