New Mardi Gras (NMG) is thrilled to announce that chart-topping artist Calvin Harris will be joining the DJ line-up in the Hordern at this year’s Mardi Gras Party, while he is in Sydney supporting Rihanna's tour. The Scottish electro popster, whose massive dance hits include “Acceptable in the 80s” and “I’m Not Alone”, will bring his enormous sound to Mardi Gras Party 2011 as he joins a sensational international line-up.

At 27 years old, Calvin Harris is the dance and electro voice of his generation. Bursting onto the scene with his audacious 2007 album “I Created Disco”, he introduced a game-changing style of 80’s inspired electroclash to the world. Harris soon became a household name with floor-filling hit singles such as “Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls”. After hearing the album, Kylie asked to work with him – leading to a key role as producer on her recent album “X”.

This lead to his second album “Ready For The Weekend”, which immediately went to number one in the UK and climbed Top 10 charts throughout Europe. Singles “I’m Not Alone”, “Ready For The Weekend” and “Flashback” remain dance-floor favourites in clubs around the world, with Harris performing at the biggest festivals including the UK’s Glastonbury and Big Day Out. From Tiesto to Dizzee Rascal, he has worked with the hottest acts and has remixed artists ranging from Katy Perry to Kelis to Groove Armada.

“We’re very excited to have Calvin Harris behind the decks at Mardi Gras Party,” said Michael Rolik, CEO of NMG. “He’s been leading the electro genre for years and is the perfect big-room sound for the Hordern. Each year our Party continues to attract elite international talent as one of the nation’s most innovative and exciting events. There are more names still to join the line-up so watch this space.”

Harris joins a stunning Party line-up, which combines international acts with the very best home-grown talent. Playing alongside Harris in the Hordern is “Godfather of House” Frankie Knuckles, electroclash creator and NYC legend Larry Tee and Spanish star Steven Redant, with Seamus Haji (UK), Yinon Yahel (Tel Aviv) and Francisco Guerra (San Fran) spreading the love in the RHI. Australian acts are set to include the “First Lady of House” Kate Monroe, scene favourite Murray Hood, Melbourne’s own Kam Shafaati, underground queens Sveta and Feisty as well as Bob Downe’s All-Star Retro-Gras.

Mardi Gras Party is at the Entertainment Quarter on Saturday 5th March from 10pm. For Tickets head to www.ticketek.com.au. For more information head to our website at www.mardigras.org.au/party
