Mardi Gras Festival applications close this Friday
New Mardi Gras today urged artists, community groups and arts organisations to submit applications for the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras 2012 Festival program, encouraging applicants to set out events which showcase the diversity of our community, but also with appeal to broader audiences.
Kicking off one week earlier, the Mardi Gras Festival will open with the popular community event, Fair Day on Sunday 12th February, and culminate with the Parade and Party on Saturday 3rd March. The Festival Team is looking for venues and producers who are interested in being part of the buzzing three week season.
Program categories include Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Social Activities, Community and Sporting events. Mardi Gras attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year, bringing new audiences to events.
The Festival Team would like to particularly encourage events that showcase the cultural diversity of our communities and/or have a focus on lesbian, transgender, intersex, bisexual or queer communities to apply.
Next year’s Festival will also be extending beyond the inner city, to ensure that audiences all over Sydney have the opportunity to experience the magic of Mardi Gras. Individual and community artists in Western Sydney and other suburban areas are encouraged to lodge applications.
Festival favourites such as Queer Thinking will be back in 2012, in what is set to be massive line-up of events.
Anyone looking to showcase their event should apply now as applications close Friday 30th September.
