MARDI GRAS RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS WITH THE LANEWAY REVIVAL
A complete experience to top off the best weekend of the year - 2012 sees the Sydney Mardi Gras bring back and rev up the legendary Laneway event, 12 noon till 10pm on 4 March, the day after the Parade and Party.
This much-loved tradition spanned many years of Mardi Gras history – for years, partygoers would descend on the renowned Hill Street Laneway to meet up with friends and celebrate the final day of Mardi Gras. Many crazy stories from these events colour our community history – and there are many stories yet to be created.
This event has become folklore in our community, although many have yet to experience it. It became legendary in the hearts and minds of people who enjoyed it, a memory envied by those who wished they had been there.
This year, the iconic Laneway celebrations are being brought back and reinvented at the same location in the Hill Street Laneway, and at the nearby Beresford and Flinders Hotels – so that this year’s revellers can also have the opportunity to create their own iconic Laneway memory.
Unlike previous incarnations of the Laneway events, this ticketed version of the event will offer audiences access to a bonus hybrid of star moments, drop-in DJs, pop-up performances from acts that have already graced the Sydney Mardi Gras season and a festival where the lane is the stage.
SGLMG CEO Michael Rolik said, "We’re very excited to revive and reinvent the Laneway. It’s a tradition that the community loves and one that we hope to share with a new generation – it’s harking back to Mardi Gras’ history, but with a new twist. It’s old school meets new school, and a chance for people to catch up with all of their new-found and long-lost friends from the Parade and Party."
Tickets are now on sale.
