Go west this Mardi Gras as Sydney’s favourite LGBTQI+ storytelling night returns to Western Sydney for a second year. Join host Maeve Marsden and an eclectic line up of stars and strangers for an evening of our city’s queerstories, unexpected tales of lives well lived and battles fought, pride, prejudice, love and humour.
The LGBTQI+ community has been sharing stories for centuries, creating our own histories, disrupting and reinventing conventional ideas about narrative, family and community. In its usual home in Redfern, Queerstories has been selling out every month for two years, bringing storytellers from all walks of life to the stage. Funny, moving, surprising and engaging, the stories from Queerstories are also available on the podcast and in a collection of stories published by Hachette in 2018.
This event is Auslan interpreted. Presented by Riverside Theatres. Get tickets here.
As a woman, where can you go in your hour of need? For this family of queer intimates, the answer is: to bed. The Bed Party, a new Australian play with an all-female cast, is part slumber party, part consciousness-raising circle: a theatrical love letter to women’s lives with women.
In a Sydney sharehouse in 2016, five feminists come together, and come apart, as they navigate the turbulence of one eventful weekend. Around the central bed—their meeting place, their safe space and their rallying point of resistance—they confront difficult circumstances both personal and political.
The Bed Party dives deep into the nitty-gritty of relationships between women, to portray a slice of contemporary queer life in all its frequently messy glory. The characters devote their lives to women; as partners, as friends, as comrades-in-arms. The play devotes its attention to (the specificity of) their lives, giving voice to the complexities, and the significance, of women-centred experience.
The Bed Party will run 12th to 16th February 2019 as part of The Old 505 Theatre’s FreshWorks season.

Yes! Yes! Nanette! is our response to Australian comedian, Hannah Gadsby's stand-up-and-be-proud performance, "Nanette"; her personal exploration of the reality of sexual violence and homophobia while growing up Lesbian in Tasmania. She reminds the world that we need to demonstrate our support for the LGBTQI+ community, especially our Rainbow Youth.
