Community Lip-Sync Duels To Raise Funds For Mardi Gras

Prominent LGBTQI community members are preparing to lip-sync through a roster of classic songs this winter in a brand new fundraiser for Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to be held onSaturday 27 June 2015.

Presented by IVF Australia and hosted by popular TV Presenter and author Gretel Killeen and the doyenne of Oxford Street Polly Petrie, Lip-Sync Duels promises to a fabulously fun and entertaining night during Pride Week.

Each performer will be competing on behalf of other LGBTQI organisations in a bid to win the grand final prize of a Mardi Gras fundraising pack worth more than $4000.

Confirmed contestants include Alex Greenwich MP, 2dayFM newsreader Geoff Field, community stalwarts Sen Raj and Laurence Stark, plus Mardi Gras Co-chairs Fran Bowron and Paul Savageperforming as a duo. Also confirmed is Ox Gold breakfast presenter and Mardi Gras Board memberJames Breko Brechney, and the wonderful Shelly Silberman is coming out of retirement for the night, with more contestants to be announced soon.

Set over 4 rounds, the 12 contestants compete in a knockout duel style contest with each winner advancing through to the next round as determined by audience votes. After the first 2 rounds, the audience can also bring back 2 eliminated contestants by purchasing special wildcard votes, making the finals a spectacular battle of the audience favourites.

Taking place within the majestic Paddington Town Hall, the night also features some amazing and unique auction items including a walk on role in Opera Australia’s upcoming Turandot production that will likely elicit some fierce bidding.

Mardi Gras CEO, Michele Bauer says “This new event has been created to raise funds so that we can invest in new projects across the organization in the lead up to our 40th anniversary in 2018. We’re thrilled with the support from all across our community and look forward to an exciting and fun night out”.

All the monies raised from the event will go directly to supporting Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and the 2016 Festival including Fair Day and Parade, the biggest community events of each season.

This experience provides his clients with unique insights and an unparalleled perspective of photographic consumers, sales and marketing, and maximising business opportunities. David has a Diploma in Strategic Marketing and is currently undertaking an Advanced Diploma of Marketing course. He is an associate member of the Australian Marketing Institute, a member of the National Board for the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, and is a member of the advisory board for the Head On Photo Festival. In his spare time David walks his pooch Rosie around Sydney Park, hones his photography, cheers for the Sydney Swans, indulges in reality TV and dreams of overseas holidays. He also supports two organizations that are close to his heart - Twenty10 who provide support for homeless gay and lesbian youth, and Assistance Dogs Australia who provide freedom and independence to people with physical disabilities.
