Talks and seminars

Gay icon seems an understatement when it comes to describing the multi-talented John Waters. From underground to overground, filmmaking, acting, photography and musicals, his career and output has helped define what it is to be queer in both the 20th and 21st Centuries. His one-man show is a ‘vaudeville’ act that celebrates his film career and joyously bad taste.

Focusing on Waters’ early artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to “filth followers” everywhere.

From his first 8-mm short, Hag in a Black Leather Jacket in 1964 to Polyester, Hairspray, Cry-Baby, Pink Flamingos and so many more, he has rubbed our noses in underculture and made us come up smiling.

In his first appearance in Sydney, and his first in Australia in over a decade, join him in lowering the tone of the hallowed Concert Hall of Sydney Opera House for one night only.
