Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras was proud to support the Tiwi Island Sistagirls on their journey to Sydney for the 2017 and 2018 Parades via our Community Grants Program.
"To go to the Mardi Gras is to showcase our culture and our people - how Tiwi people have evolved in this generation, and how we have become stronger in our community. And it shows people that you can make a change."
SUPPORT MARDI GRAS
For the last 40 years, Sydney Gsy and Lesbian Mardi Gras has provided a creative platform for the community to celebrate its achievements, protest and bring global attention to LGBQTI human rights. Our community is always changing but our purpose remains the same.
Your support means that more LGBTQI communities can connect through Mardi Gras, and have a voice to celebrate with pride and hope. You can change the lives of LGBTQI people who face barriers for simply being themselves.
How you can make a difference
SGLMG income includes 57% from ticketing and corporate sponsorship, and 14.5% Government grants. (2017)
There are no major trusts or foundations that provide support specifically for LGBTQI communities. We need your help to address this need.
CONNECTING COMMUNITIES PROGRAM
All donations to this fund go directly to the needs of SGLMG and its communities.
- Ensuring community events remain free and commissioning creative projects
- Regional touring of SGLMG exhibitions and programs
- Archiving our history
MARDI GRAS GRANTS PROGRAM
The SGLMG grants programs exist to remove barriers to LGBTQI community members to participate in the Mardi Gras Parade and supports other LGBQTI non-profit organisations, established charities, local community groups, and individuals working to improve the lives of LBTQI people.
Mardi Gras Grants programs include:
- Parade participant grants
- Travel grants for remote communities
- Grants for community organisations for LGBTQI arts, sport and education
Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is a registered charity. All donations above $2 are tax deductible. Donations online are processed securely via GiveNow.
WAYS TO DONATE
No donation is too large or small – 24/7 all year. Your online donations will be directed to the SGLMG fund unless you allocate your donation to a specific interest area.
Many organisations have philanthropic programs that are administered by staff and often matched by the organisation. Please discuss with your workplace about ways to support SGLMG.
As SGLMG celebrates its 40th year and rejoices in its legacy to Australia’s LGBTQI community, we encourage you to consider your personal legacy.
