Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Ltd is a registered Australian Company and Charity. The Board exists to make decisions, to ensure all requirements of its registration are met and to ensure the organisation operates within the law. The Board is responsible for ensuring that all activity directly relates to SGLMG's registered charitable purposes. The Board is accountable to its members and ultimately responsible for the organisation's financial health.
BECOME A DIRECTOR
Before becoming a director, directors should fully understand their role and legal obligations regarding the management of the company. Because the company exists as a separate entity directors must carry out their duties as a director in accordance with certain rules. They must always act in good faith, in the best interests of the company (even where this may conflict with personal interests) and for a proper purpose. Directors are collectively responsible for oversight of the affairs of the company and must comply with legal obligations as a director under the Australian Charities for Not-for-Profits Commission Act 2021 and Corporations Act 2001. Directors must be fully up-to-date on what the company is doing, including its financial position, know how the business is going and take an active part in directors’ meetings.
