Presented by Queer Screen
Queer Screen’s 29th Mardi Gras Film Festival is coming February 17 to March 3, 2022, and it is stacked with more than 110 films, episodics and shorts, all unabashedly, proudly queer.
It’s time for audiences to get back into the cinema (or On Demand) and explore new LGBTQIA+ stories on screen.
Queer Screen is extremely proud to feature a program strand focussing on First Nations people from around the world in MGFF22. These stories are important and vital to us all, but especially our queer community.
The Opening Night film, ‘Wildhood’ is a Canadian coming-of-age in which a rebellious two-spirit teenager runs away from home to find his birth mother and reclaim his Mi'kmaw heritage.
Other festival highlights include, the visually stunning ‘Finlandia’, the female led First Nations episodic ‘Querencia’, Sundance award-winner ‘Ma Belle, My Beauty’, epic gay drama ‘Firebird’ & the incredible ‘No Straight Lines: The Rise of Queer Comics’.
Closing Night will feature none other than the highly-anticipated adaptation of a seminal novel, ‘B-Boy Blues’. It’s ‘Moonlight’ meets ‘Queer As Folk’ in an unapologetic celebration of African-American gay men.
The full program and tickets are available at queerscreen.org.au.
