Our communities haven’t seen a true Sydney Mardi Gras Festival since before the Sydney Lockout Laws. We’re ramping up to re-introduce the Festival to the world in its purest form, under the recently announced 2024 theme Our Future…
We’re inviting you, our glorious community, to stand by our side on stage as the curtain draws and we unveil the 2024 calendar of events – as part of our open-access Festival events program. With a range of packages outlined below, the program is managed and curated by the same team who delivers the internationally renowned Festival.
Please ensure that you have read all information below and the 2024 Terms and Conditions before submitting your application online.
FESTIVAL EVENTS 2024
PACKAGE 1: PRINT AND DIGITAL – NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Inclusions:
– 1/9 page event listing in the printed and digital Festival Guide (example outlined in T&Cs) – up to 10,000 copies printed with national distribution.
– 1 x dedicated social media post via Sydney Mardi Gras channels – Twitter (c61,000 followers) and/or Facebook (c400,000 followers)
– Dedicated event listing page on the Sydney Mardi Gras website
– 1 x dedicated mention in the Sydney Mardi Gras Newsletter
– Inclusion in the Instagram Stories (c65,000 followers), newsletter and website ‘What’s On Today’
– Approved use of the 2024 Festival Events branding pack
Price:
Ticketed: $699 for one ticked event/season or $599 each for two or more
Free: $599 for one free event/season or $499 each for two or more
NFPs are eligible for a $100 discount (redeemable up to two events).

PACKAGE 3: DIGITAL ONLY
Inclusions:
– 2 x dedicated social media posts via Sydney Mardi Gras channels – Twitter (c61,000 followers) and/or Facebook (c400,000 followers)
– Dedicated event listing page on the Sydney Mardi Gras website
– 1 x dedicated mention in the Sydney Mardi Gras Newsletter
– Inclusion in the Instagram Stories (c65,000 followers), newsletter and website ‘What’s On Today’
– Approved use of the 2024 Festival Events branding pack
Price:
Ticketed: $499 for one ticketed event/season or $399 each for two or more
Free: $399 for one free event/season or $299 each for two or more
NFP are eligible for a $50 discount (up to two events).
PACKAGE 4: DIGITAL ONLY
Inclusions:
– Dedicated event listing page on the Sydney Mardi Gras website
– Inclusion in the newsletter and website ‘What’s On Today’
– Approved use of the 2024 Festival Events branding pack
Price:
Ticketed: $199 for one ticketed event/season or $159 each for two or more
Free: $159 for one free event/season or $109 each for two or more
Joining 2024 Festival Events is by application only, only if your event is approved will it be added to the Festival calendar. It is free to apply.
Application process:
- Submit your completed 2024 Festival Events program application by the closing date (application link below). All required fields must be completed in order for your application to be reviewed.
- All applications will be assessed by Sydney Mardi Gras based on their relevance to the LGBTQIA+ community, contribution to the broader Sydney Mardi Gras Festival, if the event(s) take place during Feburary and/or March 2024, are run by, employ and/or engage LGBTQIA+ people and align with the Sydney Mardi Gras ethical framework.
- Approved applicants will be notified by the dates outlined below and are required to pay the invoice and complete their additional event information form by the dates below to confirm their entry.
PACKAGE 1 AND 2

- Applications close: 11:59pm AEST 31 August 2023
- Successful applicants notified: By 5pm AEST 11 September 2023
- Additional event information form due: 11:59pm AEST 20 September 2023
- Invoice due: by 11:59pm AEST 18 September 2023
PACKAGE 3 AND 4: ROUND 1
- Applications open: 10 August 2023
- Applications close: 11:59pm AEDT 1 October 2023
- Successful applicants notified: By 5pm AEDT 4 October 2023

Application and event operations
1. In order for your application to be reviewed by Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, you must complete all the required fields of the application form with sufficient information for the panel to assess. If the information provided is planned, please indicate this as part of your response.
2. In order for your event to be accepted by Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, you must ensure that your event name, URL, social media and ticketing platform does not use the words:
a) “Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras” or “Mardi Gras” or “Sydney Mardi Gras”, or “Official” in your presenting credit or event title, because Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is not co-producing or co-presenting your event;
b) “Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras” or “Mardi Gras” or “Sydney Mardi Gras” or “Official” or “Official Opening” or “Opening Event” or “Official Closing Party/Event” in the title or URL of your event, as it could be interpreted as a Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras produced event.
3. You must not use our name in your presentation title – this includes:
a) Presented by or with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras/Sydney Mardi Gras/Mardi Gras
b) Co-presented by or with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras/Sydney Mardi Gras/Mardi Gras
c) Presented by or with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras/Sydney Mardi Gras/Mardi Gras
d) Co-presented by or with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras/Sydney Mardi Gras/Mardi Gras
e) In Association with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras/Sydney Mardi Gras/Mardi Gras
4. The 2024 Festival Events exists to amplify and share events taking place during the 2024 Festival period. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras does not take financial or social responsibility for the viability and/or success of the event. Ticketing, budgets, feasibility, risk assessments, programming and creative direction is the sole responsibility of the event organiser/promoter(s).
5. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras reserve the right to withdraw any applicant’s event, even once the program has been announced, should the event, organisers and/or anyone involved attract negative attention or reaction from the media or LGBTQIA+ community.
6. If you fail to pay your invoice by the due date, it is within Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras’ power to remove your event from the Festival program.
Marketing and inclusions
7. If your event registration is accepted by Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, you will be entitled to use the 2024 Festival Events branding pack on all your marketing collateral to acknowledge you are an officially registered event. The 2024 Festival Events branding pack will be issued to you after your event is accepted and the invoice is paid. You cannot use our logo prior to the branding pack being issued, and logo guidelines must be followed.
8. When completing your application, you must satisfy the condition of being an LGBTQIA+-related event.
9. It is at the discretion of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to determine the channel and timing of your social media and newsletter inclusions.
10. Please note, the print numbers for the 2024 Festival Guide outlined above are indicative.
11. Due to the volume of work and events during the Festival period, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras are unable to provide insights and analytics on social media, newsletter and website inclusions or a mock-up version of the Festival Guide inclusion for approval.
12. Those submitting an application for the packages with a 2024 Festival Guide inclusion acknowledge their event will be listed in chronological order by category and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras maintains creative control on the copy and image selection and may make minor amendments (eg. update LGBT+ to LGBTQIA+), correct spelling or grammatical errors.
