Consulting our members as we review our Constitutions

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Mardi Gras Arts are seeking to make amendments to our Constitutions.

We believe a number of updates are necessary, according to advances in community expectations, requirements under the Corporations Act and best practice governance requirements.

On Saturday we held our initial Constitution Review discussions with members via Zoom. The aim was to receive the initial impressions of the amendments being proposed, and we are grateful for your feedback and ideas.

Overall, the experience was incredibly positive with constructive feedback being put to the Board and diverse views on the amendments shining through.

The proposed amendments come from ideas raised by members and through a number of external reviews of our Constitutions. They involve the following areas:

  • How membership works
  • How motions and elections work
  • How proxies work
  • The makeup of the Board
  • Privacy matters in relation to the members register

We welcome feedback from all our members on the proposed amendments to our Constitutions.

Your feedback on the proposed amendments is encouraged - please email our Company Secretary directly at company.secretary@mardigrasarts.org.au.

Feedback from the consultations on the proposed amendments will be collated and provided to all members shortly along with further information on next steps. Any proposed amendments to the Constitution will then be taken to a general meeting and will be decided by the membership.
