Expressions of Interest – Associate Treasurer

Seeking a new Treasurer - Expressions of Interest now open

After serving on the Board of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) and Mardi Gras Arts (MGA) as a Director and Treasurer for the last 3 years, Christopher Brooke decided not to recontest the position at the 2020 AGM. The Board and staff of Mardi Gras thank Chris for his service to Mardi Gras and the community.

As a consequence, and notwithstanding that every Director has, under the Corporations Act, a duty of skill, competence and diligence in the understanding of financial reports and in understanding the company’s financial position, the new SGLMG Board invites Expressions of Interest from our members for a volunteer Board Associate position to provide the professional skills of a Treasurer.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a not-for-profit arts organisation whose vision is to be a global leader in the promotion of diversity, inclusion, equity and social justice through culture, creativity and partnerships. The Board strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, gender and sexuality diverse individuals, and people with disability.

In readiness for the 2021 season and considered the significant challenges COVID-19 places on a community organisation and festival like Mardi Gras, the Board encourage applications from individuals able to significantly contribute to Board discussions, planning and committee work.

The Treasurer will provide input to the company’s budget, financial planning and cash management while limiting risks to the organisation. The successful applicant must have previous senior experience in the financial management of a large budget and will be an integral part of maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders.

Expressions of Interest should include a CV (max 3 pages) and a cover letter (max 2 pages) outlining professional experience and any experience within financial and leadership roles. The Board is particularly interested in meeting with applicants who have experience in gender and sexuality diverse community organisations, major events and registered charities with DGR status.

Applicants should familiarise themselves with the Constitutions of MGA and SGLMG. All applicants must be fit and proper persons*.

The Constitution of MGA can be viewed here.

The Constitution of SGLMG can be viewed here.

Additional information about being a Board member can be viewed here.

Expressions of Interest cover letters and CVs must be sent via email to company.secretary@mardigras.org.au or via mail or hand delivery to Company Secretary, Mardi Gras Arts, Suite 6, 94 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst NSW 2010.

Expressions of Interest must be received by 5pm on 28 December 2020. Applicants will be shortlisted and interviewed beginning the week of 11 January 2021. The successful candidate will be required to attend the Board Induction workshop on 16 January 2021.
