Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is proud to announce that it is among many of New South Wales’ leading LGBTQI social, support and lobby groups who’ll unite with a loud and proud call for marriage equality next month in Sydney’s CBD.

Gathering on Sunday 10 September from 1pm outside Sydney Town Hall on George Street, the state’s LGBTQI communities and their allies aim to inspire our nation and our Parliament to vote YES for marriage equality and get on the right side of history.

Several local and national organisations are uniting to co-host the YES Rally for Marriage Equality:

Community Action Against Homophobia
GetUp!
just.equal
NSW Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby
PFLAG Australia

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras
Sydney Pride Festival
Trans Sydney Pride

By combining our networks we aim to deliver one of the largest, cohesive and inclusive Marriage Equality actions in a decade. Nearly 4,000 people have already registered their interest in attending and we aim to see that number soar even higher after today’s announcement.

Over one billion people across the globe are now living in places where marriage equality is a reality, and Australia is the last major English-speaking nation not to deliver equality marriage rights for same-sex couples. We urge MPs to act decisively and fairly by voting to enact marriage equality now.

The rally is scheduled for the first weekend after the High Court decides whether or not Australia is heading towards the government’s postal survey, or if it’s headed back to parliament to decide. Either way, it’ll be history in the making – and a key time to keep up the pressure for equality.

Make a sign, wear your rainbow colours, bring your friends and family, and let’s gather many thousands of supporters to send united. Join our loud, clear and vibrant call for a YES on Marriage Equality.
