Mardi Gras Parade Grants

Proudly supported by

The MARDI GRAS PARADE GRANTS PROGRAM provides funding to individuals, community groups and not-for-profit groups to ensure parade entries are as eye-catching and attention-grabbing as possible, so that organisations can deliver their messages loudly, proudly and clearly during the 2020 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

Grants are targeted to help create a “wow” experience rather than to fund basic amenities for your float or Parade entry.

Applicants can also apply to have their parade entry fee waived by demonstrating their need and strong relevance to the LGBTQI community.

Grants are awarded to the most compelling applicants of either $2,500 or $5,000.

  • Individuals
  • Not-for-profit organisations including sporting groups
  • Community groups
  • Registered charities

Please ensure you have received an approval notification from Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to enter the 2020 Parade.

Please also ensure you have a registered ABN for payment otherwise high taxation applies to grants.

  • Businesses or for-profit-organisations
  • Government Departments (including Government Prides and Essential Services)
  • Media Organisations

MARDI GRAS PARADE GRANTS supported by Google aim to fund a diverse range of ideas that will lift your float to a completely new artistic level.

Applicants whose parade entry responds to SGLMG annual theme (for 2020 the theme is WHAT MATTERS) will be considered favourability, however this is not a requirement.

Grants will be approved based on the detailing following criteria:

•       Applications that demonstrate a high level of artistic merit
•       Applications that demonstrate a clear message
•       Relevance to the LGBTQI community (one or all communities)
•       Good planning and affective use of resources

AREAS OF SUPPORT INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

•    Material or freight costs
•    Additional decorative items or structures
•    Costuming and make-up
•    Choreographer fees
•    Design development expenses
•    AV and audio equipment hire

  • Travel
  • Accommodation
  • Vehicle hire, or
  • Administration costs (including staff expenses)

We strongly recommend that each grant registrant takes the time to thoroughly fill out the registration form. Be as succinct where possible, but keep in mind that we want to hear all the magnificent details of your entry. This is to enable the grants committee to make the most informed decision as possible. Where you find questions inapplicable, please mark N/A.

As the grant budget is limited, not all registrations can be funded. It is up to the discretion of the grants committee to nominate the amount granted – this may be the full amount requested or part of it.

Registrations should be realistic in grant request amounts and all funding requests will need to be supported by documentation.
Applicants can apply for a grant of either $2,500 or $5,000. Grants are not subject to GST.

When completing the financial section of the application form, your budget should be supported by quotes and invoices. Where possible, you must provide at least 2 possible quotes. If successful, you will need to keep the receipts and report expenditure of your grant.

Please feel free to add any further information, images, designs, or other documentation that you feel will add to your application.

All MARDI GRAS PARADE GRANTS recipients are required to acknowledge Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Google’s support in marketing and promotional activity, including social media, relating to their Parade entry, using the tag line:

“Organisation’s Name is a proud recipient of a Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Community Parade Grant, supported by Google.”

(line acknowledgement only, logo acknowledgement not necessary)

Grant recipients are required to demonstrate acknowledgement in grant acquittals.

Grant recipients are not expected to acknowledge the above on physical parade floats or key messaging.

The deadline for all grant registrations is 5pm, 6 December 2019. All applicants will be notified of the outcome on 17 December 2019.
