Mardi Gras Parade Grants

Proudly supported by

Mardi Gras and Google Parade Grants are designed to support entries that make a significant and meaningful contribution to the LGBTQI+ community by providing funding to individuals, community groups and not-for-profit organisations. Ensuring parade entries are as eye-catching and attention-grabbing as possible, so that organisations can deliver their messages loudly, proudly and clearly during the 2021 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

Grants are targeted to help create a “wow” experience rather than to fund basic amenities for your Parade entry.

Grants are awarded to the most compelling applicants of $2,000.

  • Individuals
  • Not-for-profit organisations including sporting groups
  • Community groups
  • Registered charities

Please ensure you have received an approval notification from Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras to enter the 2021 Parade before applying.

Please also ensure you have a registered ABN for payment otherwise we will be unable to process payment.

Mardi Gras Parade Grants will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Benefit that the Parade entry brings to the LGBTQI community
  • Demonstrated capacity for the applicant to deliver the entry
  • Demonstrated budgeting and project planning

  • Ensuring grants are distributed equitably across the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, queer and intersex communities
  • Ensuring grants are distributed equitably across a range of locations
  • Ensuring grants are distributed equitably across a range of intersecting demographics, including race and socioeconomic. First Nations and Aboriginal organisations are encouraged to apply.

An entrant will not be eligible if any of the following apply:

  • Are a commercial business activity
  • Are a government organisation
  • Seeking a grant for any project other than a 2021 Parade entry

Download the application information sheet here which will work as your guide for the do’s and don’ts when compiling your application.

We strongly recommend that each grant registrant takes the time to thoroughly fill out the registration form. Be as succinct where possible, but keep in mind that we want to hear all the magnificent details of your entry. This is to enable the grants committee to make the most informed decision as possible.

As the grant budget is limited, not all registrations can be funded. It is up to the discretion of the grants committee to nominate which organisations or individuals who will receive a grant.

When completing the financial section of the application form, your budget should be supported by quotes and invoices. If successful, you will need to keep the receipts and report expenditure of your grant.

Please feel free to add any further information, images, designs, or other documentation that you feel will add to your application.

Submitting an application constitutes acceptance of the Mardi Gras Google Parade Grants 2021 terms and conditions, which are available for download here.

The deadline for all grant registrations is 11:59PM, Wednesday 6 January 2021. Applicants will be notified of the outcome WC Monday, 11 January 2021.

All recipients are required to acknowledge Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Google’s support in marketing and promotional activity, including social media, relating to their Parade entry, using the tag line:

“Organisation’s Name is a proud recipient of a Mardi Gras Google Parade Grant”

(line acknowledgement only, logo acknowledgement not necessary)

Grant recipients are required to demonstrate acknowledgement in grant acquittals.

Grant recipients are not expected to acknowledge the above on physical parade floats or key messaging.
