We are opening auditions to dancers in our communities who would like to volunteer as a part of Mardi Gras’ 2023 hallmark performances – the Mardi Gras Community Float (Parade) or The Midnight Show (Party).
These world-renowned performances continue to celebrate LGBTQIA+ identities, advocate for equality, and promote diverse voices by upholding a longstanding tradition of protest, cheekiness, celebration and most of all, pride. These shows continue to be performed by volunteers to ensure representation, and accessible skill levels.
If you have big dreams of dancing your way down the world’s largest LGBTQIA+ night-time parade with thousands of spectators cheering you on from the sidelines, this is your chance.
You will travel the Parade route, starting from Whitlam Square, passing through our iconic Oxford Street and Taylor Square, all the way down Flinders Street to Drivers Triangle and Anzac Parade. You will perform a short, choreographed routine multiple times throughout the route.
As part of this, you may be required to wear a custom fitted costume, makeup and hair. You will also be required to agree to the 2023 Parade Entrants Terms & Conditions.
The Parade will be recorded for broadcast on television and online web stream by the official SGLMG broadcast partner, as well as photographed by SGLMG and various media outlets. If selected, you will be required to sign a supplementary release form.
On Parade day (Sat 25 Feb 2023), you will be required from approximately 2pm until 11pm.
If you have big dreams of performing at Australia’s longest running, and largest overnight LGBTQIA+ Party this is your chance.
You will perform on the Hordern Pavilion stage in an eight-to-ten-minute choreographed performance.
As part of this you may be required to wear a custom fitted costume, makeup and hair and attend six to eight rehearsals.
On the show day (Sat 25 Feb 2023) you will be required from 9pm until 1am, Sunday 26 February 2023. In exchange for your performance, you’re welcome to stay on at the Party and celebrate.
Positions in the Mardi Gras Community Float and Midnight Show are subject to demand and available positions. Dancers can apply to one or both performances how should you progress to the second round, you will be placed in the performance that best suits your style and expertise, due to the overlap in performance times you are unable to be part of both.
