Join a lively organisation of passionate people creating one of the world’s best LGBTQIA+ festivals

Job vacancies

Since the first march for freedom in 1978, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) has grown into a leading international cultural arts festival with a street Parade that has grown to include 12,500 participants and reach a local, online and broadcast audience of over 13 million people.

Making Mardi Gras happen takes a large team of people. We have year-round and seasonal staff to help produce the season, in addition to our committed volunteer teams. We are always interested in knowing more about people who want to be a part of the team.

Mardi Gras is one of the oldest, continuously operating LGBTQIA+ organisations in Australia. We’re a non-for-profit member-based organisation which was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQIA+ rights in a time of wide-spread, institutionalised oppression and discrimination. From these origins, Mardi Gras has evolved to include a strong focus on celebration while maintaining a commitment to social justice for LGBTQIA+ communities.

We encourage applications from a diverse range of applicants. Our organisation is an EEO employer and welcome applications from people who identify as sexuality, sex and/or gender diverse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people who are differently abled.

Director of Marketing, Communications and Engagement

The Director of Marketing, Communications & Engagement is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to develop and implement key strategies across the organisation that build awareness, transparency and adoption of our SGLMG activities as an organisation and the Annual Festival that is held every March.

This position will lead the engagement with LGBTQIA+ community, State Government and various allied industry agencies to maintain and build strong partnerships that enable the delivery of SGLMG’s organisation objectives. The position will also lead SGLMG’s role in developing and implementing rapid responses to issues and crises that may impact the credibility of SGLMG.

Expressions of Interest: SGLMG Board member

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) now has a vacancy for the Director position and, pursuant to Division III of the Constitution, invites Expressions of Interest from our Members to fill the position until the 2023 Annual General Meeting.
