Important Message about COVID-19 ahead of Mardi Gras

UPDATED 9:15am Saturday 29 February 2020:

The 2020 Mardi Gras Parade and Party will proceed tonight as planned from 7pm onwards.

NSW Health have advised that if you have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, or returned from mainland China you must self-isolate for 14 days since last contact or departure from mainland China. Please avoid gatherings if you have been in contact with suspect cases in countries where there have been outbreaks.

NSW Health reiterate there is still no evidence of community transmission of COVID-19 in Australia.

Symptoms include fever, a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath. If symptoms develop, immediately isolate yourself and call your doctor or health direct 1800 022 222 for an assessment.

The best way to protect yourself and the community is to:

·        stay home if you are sick, unwell or experiencing symptoms;

·        make sure to clean your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub;

·        cover your nose and mouth when coughing, and sneezing with a tissue or into a flexed elbow; and

·        avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.

Further information about COVID-19 can be found on the NSW Health website: www.health.nsw.gov.au
